The marble sculpture of David was originally in front of the Signoria Palace in Florence as a symbol of freedom, readiness and independence

Michelangelo Tour

Michelangelo’s Life, His Sculptures, His Struggles

We will try to understand the Florentine genious through his masterpieces, through David and the overwhelming Slaves or Prisoners, his unfinished mysterious sculptures, unveiling vices and phobias that characterised his long and fruitful career.

The Academy Gallery and David

The tour starts with the visit of the Academy Gallery that still houses the icon, the original David by Michelangelo, a place not to be missed in Florence.

The newly restored Plaster Cast Gallery is also worth to be visited.
The huge amount of classic style plaster busts, sculptures and funerary monuments made in 19th century shows the centrality of Florentine artists and worshops long after Michelangelo’s death.

From Duomo Square to the Lively Santa Croce Neighbourhood

Duomo Square is one of the tour highlights: we will focus on the main religious buildings like the Cathedral, the Baptistery, Giotto’s bell tower and Brunelleschi’s dome. An overwhelming  place to admire in Florence.

We will discover Santa Croce area, where Michelangelo and his family lived and we will end our Florence private tour with the visit of the Basilica of Santa Croce, the Florentine medieval Franciscan church where the artist’s tomb is.

This church is also called the Florentine pantheon, because it gives us a chance to see the most notable Florentines’ funerary monuments: intellectuals, polititians and writers were buried here.
Michelangelo was always the exception: the only artist who had the privilege to be buried among illustrious men like Machiavelli and Galileo.

Craftmenship and Leather: a Florentine Tradition

Dive into Florentine hand-made leather goods at the Scuola del Cuoio, the Leather School of Florence.
In the 50s Franciscan friars gave Gori family the chance to open a leather school in their former monastery, where the students, many of them were orphans at that time, could learn all the secrets of leather working.

This school still exhists, most of the students come  from all over the world, still willing to be part of a very special history where artisans still create excellent leather hand-crafted products according to ancient techniques.

A school, a workshop and a boutique to be experienced during our private guided tour.
